so as the title says it all, here are the recent updates and whatnots of BruONZ Summer Games.

To Committee members, there's an opening ceremony on Friday the 6th Jan..... and we get to perform the Haka. So updated information on further practice will be posted as soon as we have feedback from the Haka Coach (Dibah and Kai)

Place: Radisson Hotel, BSB
Ticket Sale: $25 per head

we as the organizer, get to perform twice as the opening and closing performance for the night (Other States will also perform for the night). Practice will be held as soon as we get feedback from the Dance Coach (Shikin and Dibah) and it will most likely to be held after the games.

Annual General Meeting 2011

Hey people!!

To all Muslim members out there, Assalamualaikum & Selamat Menunaikan Ibadah Puasa.

Ready for AGM? Here's the detail on what will happen that day.

So, the execs held a meeting last 6th August and as always I will update you on the minute as soon as AGM is finished. Don't wanna confuse you with too much information at one time (like my GI & Renal lecture today -__-"). First agenda was AGM, and these are the stuff that we confirmed that day.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2011

Date: Saturday, 13th August 2011

Time: 2-5pm

Venue: Evision Lounge, OUSA Clubs & Socs

Please be there at 2pm sharp, so we can commence the meeting on time. If we go overboard with the timing, we might rush to our iftar/sungkai.

The following exec positions are open for next year:

President

Vice President (Admin)

Vice President (Welfare)

Treasurer

Public Relation Officer

Religious Officer (Male)

Religious Officer (Female)

Food & Beverages Officer

Sports & Activities Officer

Media Communications Officer

And here comes the crucial details:

Bring pen on the day
We will go through the positions one by one, starting from President & ending with Media Communications Officer
We will open the floor for volunteers that nominates themselves 1st.
If you think you are a perfect candidate for the position, please volunteer yourself for the position.
You will then be given an amount of time to convince members why they should vote you for the position.
We will then open the floor for nominations, where members can nominate other members that they think is suitable to hold that certain position.
Only a maximum of 4 candidate is allowed on every position. Therefore the floor is open to nominations ONLY IF there are less than 4 volunteers, or otherwise stated subject to President's approval. So please, if you think you really want that position, don't wait until you get nominated, or else, the quota will be filled.
Every nominations must be seconded to be eligible.

In case you don't know what this means.. Let me give you an example.

Yi Huey thinks Chian Mei is a perfect candidate for president

She then raised her hand and say "I nominate Chian Mei to be president"

If Sasa thinks the same, she will then raised her hand and said, "I seconded that"

Okay!! So hopefully you all are gear up to vote for your next BSA Executive Committee. Choose wisely as it will determine the future of BSA.

International Food Festival

The International Food Fest (in conjunction with OUSA Re-O week) went well, like it always does. The night was harsh and cold, but our BSA-ians never surrender to the winter weather. They came early to prepare everything and despite the windy & rainy night, the booth was set up properly & decorated lively.

Okay, as always... on with the Pictures!!!

First, the kitchen! It was really crowded! With 14 clubs getting ready to be inspected by Dunedin City Council, its getting crowded more than ever in the OUSA kitchen. So... I just got some pics through the window on the side xD

The night ended with a relief, everyone was happy, no more long lines, no more unhappy people. Just a smile & lots of babujah spare stocks XD which my flatmates and many others have gotten their hands on ^__^

Upcoming Practice Sessions for International Cultural Night

So.. after a few amendments made by the President, due to the responsive reply from the Vice President (Welfare) and the Female Religious Officer, the practice sessions have been reduced from 8 to 6, starting from the 17th July 2011. This is also due to our dancers performing their dance routine so smoothly and almost perfectly that the committee decides that we need lesser practice

BAKE FOR CHARITY!
Drop off your baked goodies at Union Lawn, 10am on the event itself (2/4/2011, Saturday) and we’ll sell them for you!

Take note that:

- BSA is NOT baking.
- If you are kindhearted enough to bake for the day, the please do so. We won't force you as all proceeds will go to charity (means, you will not gain any profit and BSA won't subsidize for your ingredients).
But we do encourage you ^_^

2) Mini Culture Festival
14 different cultures from 14 clubs
= 14 mini-stalls!!!
= 14 ways to get cultural exposure!!

Highlights of the event:
1)Inter-committee tug-o-war between participating clubs
2)Interclub-presidential sumo match
*(Both games are open to public by gold coin donations!)
3)Raffle – Prizes include free tickets to Cultural Night of participating international societies!

So, you all can come and bring your gold coins!! Buy cakes!! Take part in the cultural booth!! Have fun on that day for a good cause!!

Now, as for our BSA booth/mini-stall...

We will be having:

1) Hand-made frames sales
2) "Tudong try outs" + Photobooth

Another important announcement, probably the MOST important one:

- We need volunteers as models

(2 males and 2 females wearing Cara Melayu and Baju Kurung)

- Photographers

(we need 2, one for the photobooth one for the day)

For a model, you will need to look your best on that day, wear your best Bruneian clothes and you will be stationed at the photobooth so that customers can take pictures with you. Sort of like Bruneian Geisha ^_^ Contact Miss President, Miss Vice President(s), Or any other BSA committee member if you are interested!!

For those who doesn't want to take part but still wants to come, please do come along!! Visit other booths too!! Support us by wearing Cara Melayu & Baju Kurung ^_^

Date: 26th March 2011

Time: 12pm- 4pm

Here are the details from the event page:

"Come along to a fun day, filled with water fights, colour, running around, colour, music, colour, and of course COLOUR! :D

Holi is celebrated at the end of the winter season (in India) on the last full moon day of the lunar month, basically by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other.

****IMPORTANT****

----> The colour packets will be on sale for $3 per packet which you can purchase on the day. Limited amount so come early!

----> It is best to wear WHITE so you will be bathed in all the wonderful colours!

(preferably the T-shirt you don't want or you're okay with getting it dirty)

1. Person LEAST coloured (white of their clothes still showing)

Recently the BSA Executive Comittee held two meetings. The latest one was on Friday evening. So, here are the updates from the meeting especially for ALL BSA Members!!

So here are the updates, from event that is going to happen soon, those which are further away and towards the end are those which is still unconfirmed.

1) OMSA Malam Malaysia Audition

This year, Otago Malaysian Students' Association decided to include Bruneians to their annual Malam Malaysia. They are welcoming BSA members to audition as an actor, singer (solo or choir) and dancer. The theme will be Mahsuri, a Malaysian folktale. Click the link to know her story.

Venue: Evison Lounge or Activities Hall @ OUSA (be sure to check for updates =D)

Time: 10am-1pm

Note: Main menu for lunch will be Nasi Lemak with fried chicken Everyone is welcome to bring other food. (e.g chicken rendang, veggies, desserts. etc) We need snack and nibbles for between the games.

There will be games for both seniors and juniors. Some games will only be for juniors but seniors will be a part of it (especially the signature game where they need to get signatures of seniors). So the more seniors the merrier xD and the harder it will be for them to win (keh keh keh *evil laugh*).

There will also be a facebook event invitation for this. So check your facebook regularly!! Or if you don't have one, check this blog for updates ^_^

Otago Singapore Club and Brunei Students' Association held a fundraising event together for the recent Christchurch earthquake. Both BSA students and OSC Students prepare food to be sold to public for donation. We were all glad that we get to take part in helping the recovery of Christchurch.

27th National Day Event

Hope you do had fun last Saturday. So.. here I am to report back to all of you what you have done that night and for the information of those who can't come that night...

At this point everyone was just chatting among themselves and vaining in front of the cameras. ( I did it too.. shhh =)) Everyone was waiting for the food coz.. well.. apparently some people arrived late *cough us cough* and the chef starts cooking only if everyone is present.

And so, while waiting for the food, it's been decided to do the Brunei Facts Quiz.

Before we could even finish the MCQ's.. food arrived! Everyone paused... Those vaining no langer taking pics, and the rest concentrated on the 4 types of dishes that keeps on coming... Everyone was mesmerized by the presence of these delicious cuisines that is right in front of their eyes. One word, satisfaction, for both the nose and the ever increasing growl of our stomach.

And... to my blogging pain, NOBODY decides to TAKE PICS OF THE FOOD!!!

Well, maybe some did, but I can't find the pictures anywhere... =(

So to list out everything, the menus were:

OSC and BSA collaboration- Fundraising for Christchurch

Hey people!!

Had fun last Saturday with the National Day celebration? The post coming up soon, don't worry ^_^ But right now need to tell you all important stuff dulu!!

BSA and OSC is collaborating together to help raise fund for Christchurch. As we all know how badly things are up there we are really grateful to Allah (S.W.T) that our colleague & friends who are currently studying in Christchurch are all okay. However, we must not forget those who lost their friends and loved ones on that day. So as a BSA-ians, we urge you to show your support by coming in on the event and get yourself some treats Just for the sake of good deed which will be rewarded, insyaAllah.

And besides, Singapore Chicken Rice soooooo nyaman and its HALAL!!!!

BSA Annual Gathering 2011

First of all, sorry about the late post, Because the IT Officer has been busy catching up with family, friends, and even recently, the viral flu. Nothing serious though, but it did put me on the bed for 3 days. Enough about me.

Okay, here we go!

On the 15th January 2011, BSA held its annual gathering at Asma Hotel, Jerudong. Preparations include making the backdrop/background for the dinner & a bit of singing practice for the surprise performance. Here's some snapshots of the preparation stage.

That's all for the preparation part. There are some other preparation pictures on the last post, I didn't want to post it up here again since it will be just a repetition.Alryt, on to the night itself!! Onwards!!

The theme is Disney. That night, everywhere you look in that small VIP room of Asma Hotel shouts Disney. Here are the few people who came.

The event begins with the announcement from, well, yours truly me, as the emcee, followed by a speech from Miss Ang Chian Mei, 2011 BSA President & the recitation of Doa Makan by Mr. Hafiz Haminudin, 2011 BSA Male Religious Officer.

Rice, Buttermilk Chicken, Mee Goreng, Veggies in Oyster Sauce, Sweet Sour Fish & some more Rice!!!

While everyone was enjoying their dinner, a surprise performance awed the crowds.

After circling each other as a show of their forbidden sacred love, they gave one last reach as the song fades out. Waseh, I feel like a novel writer now xP

Well, sorta...

Then came the long awaited games time~~~!!!!

First up, 'Musical Chair'!

Next, 'Musical Newspaper'!

Now I don't know about you guys but I've never heard such a game before. Here's how it works. Each pick a partner and given a sheet of newspaper. Random songs are played and both of you need to dance around your given newspaper. Much like the 'Musical Chair', the DJ will soon stop the songs and all you need to do is to put ur feet on the newspaper. The main objective is that nothing of your body may touch outside the newspaper once the song stops. So it didn't matter if only one foot or even one finger of your foot is in the newspaper, as long as your other foot or the rest of your foot doesn't touch the floor.

Sound easy? Well, the catch is, if you succeed and move to the next round, you have to fold the newspaper into half and play again until the last one remains. An advantage for the kids, aint it? they have small feet, of course they'll win. Or so you might think

Last round, we have the fairies on top, and a donald duck.

Wow, even the kids are strong too...

..but how did these dudes could possibly win?! Thanks to the power of strong men, i guess..

The last round was between the before-mentioned kids and these guys went head to head. The kids loses. Seeing them just few inches into tears, Khai & Syazwan went all kind-hearted as the real Mickey & Donald would have and gave their prizes to the kids... Awwwwwwww~~ So Sweet. Next year, if we got 'BSA kindest person', you guys will definitely get my vote =D

And the last game for the night was 'Pass The Parcel'!!

I love this game, but since I'm emcee-ing, I got an excuse not to play it. Besides, its a dare game... I don't like dare games... -_-"

Rules are simple. Pass the parcel around and when the DJ stop the song (yes, there is random songs played, just like before) the person with the parcel in his/her hand have to peel the wrapping off and do the dare that is written with the prize.

The highlight of the show was the coronation of the night's PRINCE & PRINCESS,

but before that, other similarly significant awards was given off first.

Winners have the honour of receiving the awards from none other than the 2011 BSA President, Ang Chian Mei.

Sasa & Peah can be seen accompanying the president so that.. you know, the awards won't get mixed up.

Hai Hai Peeps!!

Sorry ah, ryt now the IT officer is still compiling pictures of BSA Disney-themed Annual Gathering 2011 and BruOnz Annual Sports Event (Netball & Badminton) from other BSA Members. So the blogpost for the two events gonna have to wait because apparently the IT Officer is soooo lazy to take the pictures herself (slap to my face toinks~) but I can assure you that once the pictures have been compiled, I will do my best to post it up rightaway!!

New Year, BSA Gathering & BruOnz

Hear He! Hear She!

The Brunei Student Association, New Zealand has officially entered year 2011, which marks the changing of its executive committee. (Note: refer previous post if you still have got no idea of who they are). I wish CRO was real (nod to Shi Cheng & Aaron Lol!)

Alright BSA peeps, we’ll kick off our new year with the annual BSA gathering. A shout out to the people in charge because this event is going to rock the new year!! Disney theme all over, reliving your childhood fantasies!! That is if u hadn’t had GI Joe, Transformers, Power Rangers and etc as you fantasies. Dress up as princesses, princes, fairies, cats, mice, dogs, cars, pirates and you can even go as far as a candlebra (Lumiere in Beauty & the Beast), whatever that shouts Disney!! Just for the record, Pete, the main antagonist in most of Mickey Mouse & Friends’ series is a…. CAT!! Shout out “Pete’s a cat!!” in the chatbox if you did not know about that either.

Next up will be BruOnz 2011. The events for BruONZ 2011 are now confirmed. They are in need of volunteers for the sport events on the 21st (netball and badminton) as well as on the 23rd (futsal)! Since we're only participating in netball, newly-appointed Madam President Chian Mei thinks that we can help them by sending in some volunteers such as time keepers, score keepers etc as well as a photographer! If you think you can keep time, keep scores or even graph a photo (Lol!), grab a post and volunteer! Contact Madam President if you’re up to it!

Also, El Pesidente urges volunteers to come out & sign up for the sports events! Think you got what it takes? Futsal, Badminton single and double mixed are up for grabs!! Show us your skills, your techniques and put the Aussies Brunei Students on their shivering knees… Or just volunteer for the fun of it! After all, it’s just a game. What’s more?! AGM 2010

It's that time of the year again for AGM !! To those of you who don't know what that stands for ...look it up because I have no idea as well. But after 3 seconds of searching here is the definition sourced from Wikipedia :-
An annual general meeting (commonly abbreviated as AGM, also known as the annual meeting) is a meeting that official bodies, and associations involving the public (including companies with shareholders), are often required by law (or the constitution, charter, by-laws etc. governing the body) to hold. An AGM is held every year to elect the Board of Directors and inform their members of previous and future activities. (1)

This meeting was held at Evision Lounge at Club & Socs. It started off with a slideshow showing all the events BSA had this year then followed by a video of BSA cultural night performance then this year's BSA execs were asked to give a short speech on their responsibilities for the club. After that the tedious voting begins to elect new executives for 2011. There was much more competition this year for the positions in BSA and congratulations to those elected for 2011. The results are as follows(2) :-

International Cultural Night 2010

Sorry for the long overdue updates guys ! Without further a-do, I shall start updating all the events that had happen and upload the photos. We begin with the International Cultural Night which was held at the Town Hall. The Theme of this event was "Around The World" and it showcases the cultures and dances and performances by various international countries including Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and of course our very own country, BRUNEI !!! International Cultural Night - PRACTICE

Before the run-up to the International cultural night, BSA held a few practices at Clubs n Socs. The skit we are doing this year is about the traditional romantic story of Mamat. This event was a joint event between Brunei and Malaysia providing local delicacies to the public. It was held at Envision Lounge at Clubs n Socs. It was a hugely successful event showcasing a variety of food like onde-onde, ayam masak merah, teh tarik and many others. Many BSA members unselfishly volunteered to help with the cooking, preparation and sales and that's what made the whole event a total success. Keep it up guys !! BSA held an orientation event to welcome our 2010 juniors to dunedin and help them settle down, and get to know each members of the group. A treasure hunt was organized which basically involves WALKING around in a moderate pace all around dunedin as running was banned by amal for safety reasons. (SAFETY FIRST) Volunteers for the event were placed in strategic locations and were given the task of making life miserable for the juniors ..poor juniors. The juniors were split into three teams and have to embark on a perilous journey round dunedin filled with solving riddles, looking for land-marks, public chicken dances and so on. At the end of the day, we settled down for BBQ food and an ice-breaking session where everyone had their personal information extorted out of them and shared with everybody else in the club. Just comes to show how tightly-knit our association is. No secrets shall be kept. LOL . Anyway we all look forward to next year's orientation and all the fun we will have tormenting the next batch of juniors. Keep em coming !! xD

Laser tag- a game where two teams shoot lasers at each other. Team with the highest score wins. This event was hugely popular among the BSA-ians, each out to prove his/her skills in stamina, accuracy and teamwork. Two teams wages war against each other, fortunately no lives were lost in this war and both sides left the "warzone" in peace. Those who were uncomfortable with laser tag ended up playing bowling or miniature golf which are more user-friendly =)

Now this is our 1st official BSA event organized by our president amal after months of planning and tons of email n text being sent to organize this. This event was held at Angel Beach in a small town called Tutong, pretty sure you guys have heard of it. The day started out bright and sunny with no hint of rain, it was a clear day full of sunshine, perfect for a bbq. The day was filled with fun activities like talking, mingling, some beach sports and of course enjoying the BBQ food. All in all it was largely enjoyable and we all look forward to having another one next year.

BRUONZ GALA NIGHT

BSA kick start its first unofficial event of the year with the BRUONZ GALA NIGHT. For those of you who doesn't know what it is , well basically its a get-together of Bruneian students who are studying in Australia and New Zealand. We do lots of fun stuffs like sports events eg. netball, futsal, badminton etc. There was also a gala night which was held at riverview hotel (thanks sharon for this info). Those who went had a great time and here are some pictures taken during the event.

Members of BSA volunteered to cook for the masjid for Ramadan.. Alhamdulillah it was a success and the people liked it.. congratz to the chefs =D!!

BSA Queenstown trip 30.8.09 - 1.9.09

7 people went off for a trip to Queenstown for 3 days.. It was fun and enjoyable! A good way to escape from Dunedin..

BSA sungkai 5.9.09

Alhamdulillah BSA sungkai was a success .. most of the members went to help out with the cooking.. and the event went off with Magrib prayer accompanied by sungkai.. food and drinks were provided to the members courtesy of BSA.. shortly after that was the Isha prayer followed by Tarawikh headed by BSA RO Haji Ikhwan..

International cultural night

The event was held on the 21st of July at the city town hall.. Its a grand one because there were a lot of performers this year plus a huge crowd compared to last year.. The event went really smooth and i think everyone really enjoyed it.. kudos to BSA female performers for being able to show once again how elegant Bruneian dancers can be..

and hey special thanks to Jon ( our president who esle =D ) for helping OUSA organise such a huge event.. AND amal (nisah's sister) who helped choreograph the dance steps =)..

awesome night guys!! Hope BSA will continue its legacy for next year =)..

International Foodfest + Sultan's bday

BSA has done yet another superb feat during the international foodfest last thurday 16/7 by having one of the longest line of students buying food from BSA stall.. BSA had 4 dishes for sale : Ayam masak merah, roti jon, pisang babujah and begedil..

Congratz congratz!! =).. awesome work guys

The following day BSA celebrated Sultan's bday at Tacqueria Poblano.. a mexican restaurant..

BSA futsal took place at clubs and socs activities hall yesterday 30th may.. The turnout was not enough to make a tourney but we managed to gather enough players to play a friendly game.. the event lasted for 4 hrs.. changing players between games .. thank you to all who willingly participate in this event eventhough exams are around the corner.. special thanks to shidah who co-hosted this event..

Eager to play futsal?! Ever wonder how to play it?? Its easier that football for sure!!! It doesn't matter if you've never kick a ball ever in your life!! Its the participation and the thoughts that matter!!!!! And most important is to have fun! And as a matter of fact, will strengthen our BSA relationship! So JOIN IN!

We're organising a friendly futsal match during the Queens Birthday weekend. Proposed date is 31st May, which is a Sunday.

Hey guys,

Hope everyone’s doin good! =D Seems like winters creeping its way into Dunners! That means its about time to get those heaters, thermals and hot water bottles out! We’ve got quite a lot planned out for the next few months. Here’s some info about some of the stuff coming up pretty soon.

1) International Food Festival 16 July 2009

- BSA has again decided to join this event. It will be a great opportunity to promote tantalising Bruneian delicacies as well as fund raise for the club

- At the moment, we need about 4 volunteers to help prepare the food and sell it on the night. Food preparations will be either on Tuesday, 14th July or Wednesday 15th July after 4pm (details to be confirmed). Also,

volunteers will need to attend a Food Safety course held on 18th May during the evening (to be confirmed). Volunteers should make sure they are free during these times. Please email or text me if you’re interested to help out.

There are limited spaces so do hurry if you’re keen. Deadline by 5th May.

2) International Cultural Night 25th July 2009

- BSA will take part in this evening of diverse cultural displays.

- Performance to last for 5 minutes. We haven’t exactly decided on what performance we’re gonna have so do feel free to give us some ideas! We’d really appreciate it. Also if you’re keen on singing, dancing, acting etc just let us know

too!

3) Afrotago Soccer Tournament

- The guys i.e. Kai, Ji, Syazwan, Aaron, Cheng, Hafiz, Rizan are joining the tournament this Sunday

- You’re welcome to go along and support them and scream and cheer! Its this Sunday, 10:30am, Edgar Centre (arrange for your own transport)

- If you don’t plan on goin along then send em some good vibes! I’m sure they’ll feel em and get semangat-ness to play! =P

4) BSA agreement with STA Travel, George Street

- We just signed an agreement with STA Travel that will potentially benefit both BSA and their company

- Basically, the terms of the agreement are that for every BSA member that books a long-haul flight i.e. international flight with STA travel between 28 April and 10 October 2009, STA Travel will provide $25.00 to BSA per

member. (This only applies if more than 20 people book with them)

- STA Travel will keep us updated on any good deals on flights that might come up

- They also promise to beat any cheaper available fare from a competing travel agent (Proof must be provided). Apparently, they’ll beat the price by very little so do shop around for your tickets if you’re looking out for cheap deals. Once you

quote a price from another travel agent to them and they offer to beat it, you must accept their offer

- As I said earlier, this deal will be very beneficial to BSA if we do meet the 20 person target. That means we’d get more money which can be used to subsidise BSA events for you guys.

- If you’ve got any questions about this, do feel free to flick us an email or text.

5) BSA $3.00 subsidy for joining competitions/tournaments

- BSA is offering to subsidise each member $3.00 in a calendar year for participation in any competition or tournament.

- The conditions are that you must clearly state that you’re representing BSA in the competition e.g. they boys representing BSA in Afrotago soccer tournament. The final decision to subsidise lies in the hands of the committee whereby a

majority vote (two thirds) is required.

6) BSA Sembahyang Hajat before First Semester Exams

- The tentative date set for this is Friday, 22d May 2009. (Details to be confirmed)

- The event will include sembahyang Isyak berjemaah and then followed by sembahyang Hajat.

7) BSA Indoor Soccer Tournament 2009

- This is an event in the pipelines so all the details haven’t been confirmed. But it should work out so do join in on the fun.

- Tentative date is Sunday, 31st May 2009.

- Teams to comprise of 1 male player (goalkeeper) and 4 female players. Game will be 5-a-side.

- Information about registration and finalised details to be decided soon.

A team of 7 includes me, haji, rizan, cheng, aaron, hafiz and syazwan represented BSA. Our team played well but we didnt manage to get through the next round. It was a good game. Thanks to all who agreed to participate. We hope to continue participating such event every year.

BSA hosted the event especially for the 1st year students. The event was held in Evison's Lounge Clubs and Socs from 2 til 5pm. It was a great success yet again. All the BSA students who participated had fun with the games. Amongst those were passing the parcel, musical chairs and make up. We hadn't had the time to do untangling due to time constraints. Oh not to mention the food and drinks were great!. Thanks to all who help out with the preparations, being the judge, carrying the stuffs or just being there =). Congratz to the winners although in the end we all got prizes lol.. cya in the next event!

Venue: Evison Lounge, Clubs and Societies Building, Albany Street

The main purpose of this event is for everyone to get together and have some fun on top of getting to know the new first years. There will be lots of games and activities for you guys to join! Everyone will be divided into teams and then compete in several games. Winners will get prizes (nothing fancy but its still a prize) =P Rules and stuff will be explained on the day.

Light refreshments will be provided. It would be great if you guys could join in and help us make this thing a huge success! See ya there..

Last saturday BSA brought its newly arrived students around dunedin, first managing their banking accounts and shopping for their needs .. After we finished, we went for lunch at Taj Mahal, thanks again to uncle and aunties for the food =)!! We mingled around before setting off for campus tour.. Taking pictures along the way.. The weather wasn't bad as well so everything went silky smooth.... We went back to Cumby after a long day of touring and rested .. That night all the juniors agreed to go watch a movie so I brought them to Hoyts.. the movie "confessions of a shopaholic" was great! everyone including us senoirs enjoyed it.. thanks everyone who came =D .. !!

We happily welcomed the arrival of 8 students from Brunei today! The weather was excellent and the temperature wasn't that bad as well =D .. the juniors arrived around 4.15pm. Us together with Dr Warwick Brunton waited at the front of the passenger arrival area and officially met them. After a brief introduction we went to Cumberland hall to get them sorted out and brought them to their respective rooms.. They will be taken to manage their needs on saturday which is the next day.. Lastly we thank you to all the BSA members who helped out and thanks for the blanja uncle and aunty!!! =D..

Arrival of First Year Students

- They will arrive in Dunedin Airport at 4.15pm on Friday, 13^th March. Dr Warwick will welcome them and organise for a shuttle to take them back to Cumberland Hall.

- Ziemah and Haji have volunteered to go to the airport to greet them as well. Thanks guys =D

- Other people who volunteered will gather at Cumbie when the new juniors are about to come to welcome them and help them get settled in.

- Our RO i.e. Haji will recite Doa Selamat at Cumbie

- Since they’re getting in on a Friday, we’ll give them the option of going to George St to do some shopping or to get phone lines etc.

2) Saturday morning, 14th March (10am onwards)

- Volunteers will take the new students to George St to get bank accounts and vodafone lines sorted out.

- We will also show them around Kmart, Meridian, New World, Stationery Warehouse etc.

3) OMSA Food Festival 2009

- The Malaysians have asked us to join their food festival again this year! So that means more great food for u guys to eat!! =D It will be on Saturday, 21^st March 2009, 10 am to 2 pm, Evison and Cottage Lounge, Clubs and Socs Building.

- We will be making and selling desserts. Our menu is the ever famous Pisang Babujah, Air Cocolonggar (agar2 santan with longans in longan juice), Bingka Keladi and Apam

- We’ll be making quite a lot of these to sell so we need all the help we can get. We’ll be doing most of the work the night before i.e. Friday night. Please let me know if you’re willing to volunteer. I’ll give you guys more details by next week.

- Btw, the Malaysians will be selling Nasi Ayam, Murtabak, Mee goreng, Cekodok (cucur pisang I think) and air bandung.

4) Juniors Orientation 2009

- Saturday, 28^th March 2009, 2-5pm, Evison Lounge, Clubs and Socs building.

- We’ll be having an informal, fun filled orientation for the new juniors in two weeks time. It’ll be a way for them to get to know us and mingle around.

- People who turn up will be divided into several teams (a mix of seniors and juniors). You will then go on to compete in a few games and activities (details will be explained)

- The overall winners get some prizes! Nothing spectacular but at least its something.. lol..

- Light refreshments will be provided midway through the day.

- If anything changes, I’ll be sure to let you guys know about it.

I hope you guys will join in on the fun series of events we’ve got planned for the next few weeks.. It’s definitely a great way to escape from stressful studying!! If you guys have got any questions, just email or txt me =D have a great week..=D

Just a reminder about BSA 25^th Brunei National Day Celebrations 2009.

Venue: Anarkali Restaurant, George Street, Dunedin

Date: Friday, 27^th February 2009 (date unconfirmed – its either gonna be Friday or Saturday nite)

Time: 7 pm (estimate)

Cost : $15-$20 per head (BSA may subsidise some depending on budget so might be a bit cheaper)

At the moment, Ziemah's working on booking the venue and trying to sort out the food. Hopefully we can get a buffet so we can avoid the hassle of paying for alacarte.. I'm not sure if you guys have already heard of this.. if u have, this is a reminder.. =D there will be a briefing for ALL scholarship students from Australia and New Zealand held by the Scholarships and Training Unit. The Scholarship section couldnt get a hold of some of you so they asked me to send this email. The details are as follows:-

Time: 2.30 pm
Venue: Bilik Persidangan 1, Ground Floor, MOE (I think its the hexagon-shaped room where we signed our contracts)

Cost: We estimate it to be $15-$20 per head. If its possible, BSA might be able to subsidise a few dollars for each member. Details will be confirmed later.

We were thinking to have a buffet style dinner so that everyone gets to eat the same food for the same price and there wont be any confusion paying for ala-carte food. Since Anarkali is a smaller restaurant, we'll probably close down the restaurant so u guys can go wild gambar-ing and being loud!! lol.. Hey guys..

First of all I’d like to thank all of you who came to the BruONz Cultural Gala Night last night! We really appreciate your support of our event. This year is the first year New Zealand has participated in such a collaboration with the other Australian states and we hope that this warm and friendly relationship between student societies will continue for many years to come. I hope you enjoyed the evening and had a good time. Thank you to the BruONz organising committee from NZ for all your tireless efforts and hard work. Thanks to Kai from IT, Yun in Marketing, Patricia and Ziemah in Finance and Nisah, Dibah, Shidah and Amal from the events committee.. I know many of you had late nights and periods of being super stressed along the way. =P I really appreciate all that you’ve put into BruONz in order to make it such a success.

A special thank you goes out to the performers who were spectacular on the night! I’m sure the guests were really impressed with all your ayu moves and the kiwi dancing as well! =D thank you all for attending practices and rehearsals and working so hard on your performance! Better get ready for International Cultural Night back in Dunners!! LOL.. Thanks to Amal (Nisah’s sister) for helping to choreograph the dance routine and to Kai for teaching Tutira Mai!! =D without the both of u, our performance would’ve been a disaster!! =D

Hi everyone!

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for attending the BSANZ Gathering 2009 held on Saturday, 10th January 2009. I hope you had a good time and enjoyed the food! A special thanks goes out to Ruzaimah and Kamilah for making this event a huge success! (even if u ppl bagi gambarku yg inda lawa arah slideshow!!) I'll forgive u in time.. time raya kali! maaf zahir batin.. So yea.. thanks to those two people! without them we'd have no where to eat, nothing to eat, no songs to sing, no lucky draw to win.. its beginning to sound like a song! =P

Special thanks also goes out to Kai for being a great driver who never complained and for rushing to get the projector wire thereby saving the day!!! LOL! Thanks to Yun and Juang for helping collect ticket money.. Thanks to Dibah for being a great belly boss pencen and a great MC! Thanks to Patricia for goin to get vegetarian food! lol.. This is sounding more and more like an awards acceptance speech! haha.. thanks to Shazrinah for the great cello performance and to Zizan and Dhiya for their string of romantic, manis-manis songs! =D don't know who's gonna be our free performers when u guys leave for Welly! ahem ahemm.. amal and ji?? *hint hint.. =P

So yea.. Basically THANKS EVERYONE!! I could've just said that in the beginning and be over with it but i had to go into detail! lol..i really hope you guys had fun and I hope we'll have loads more of fun-filled BSA activities in 2009!

Hey everyone!

We've just met with Dr Elizabeth Chong, the coordinating tutor for undergraduate students at RIPAS Hospital. She has proposed that the Ministry of Health and RIPAS will organise a one day briefing/workshop for Otago students studying Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Health Science First Year. The tentative details for the day are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 20^th January 2009

Time: Morning session starts at 9.00 am but students must arrive by 8.30 am

Afternoon session commences at 2.00 pm

End of day at 4.30 pm

Venue: Lecture theatre, RIPAS hospital and conference room at Continuing Medical

Education Centre, RIPAS

The morning session will include several briefings and Q & A sessions about the various services at RIPAS and MOH, their future plans and aims, medical and allied health professional education issues in Brunei, administrative issues, electives etc. Graduates from Otago will also be invited for a briefing/Q&A session at the end of the morning session.

The afternoon session is mainly targetted at the more senior medical students at Otago. It was proposed that students in 4^th, 5^th and 6^th year will attend at wards and/or clinics to clerk patients. They will then give feedback on their experiences to the group after this. The more junior students may stay behind for the feedback and discussion.

Please try your best to attend this briefing/workshop. Dr Chong and her colleagues are working very hard to organise this for us. Please come up with some questions you'd like to ask the people at RIPAS or MOH. As I mentioned before, this is a tentative plan and we will receive confirmation from Dr Chong in the near future. In the meantime, please make sure you'll be free on the proposed date. Will keep in touch. Do email or text me if you guys have any questions. Thanks and take care. BSA badminton tournament

Assalamualaikum and hello,

Introducing the first BSA Badminton Tournament which would be held on
Thursday, 28th of August. The tournament will start at 10.15am and will
be held at the Activity Hall, Clubs and Socs.

The aims of this event are to diversify the activities that could
be done through out the year and also to identify hidden talent among
us which could be brought to another level.

There will be four categories for this event;

1) Mens' single
2) Womens' single
3) Womens' double
4) Mixed double

There will be no Mens' double due to the limited supply of male participants.

For participation, please reply to me through text or email, and I'd really
appreciate it if you would personally text me. Tuesday (19th August) would
be the last day to sign up. Minimum number of twelve participants for womens'
single is required.

Please include the name you want to be known as during the tournament (such
as The Terminator) and the category that you're going to participate in.
Please note that you can enter in one or more of the categories listed above.

Regarding badminton rackets, those of you who doesn't have one please don't
worry about it, badminton rackets are provided for one game at any one time.

The cost for participation is $2 per player, and all proceeds will go to our
BSA account. If you guys would like to bring some food to share with the
others during this event, please do and it'll be very much appreciated as
well. We need as much support from you guys as possible. There are prizes to
be won which would be presented at the end of the tournament.

A big congratulations to everyone who made the Cultural Night a big success, and also not forgetting the Fiji Cultural Night, which we did it kapcai-ly, but hey, everyone seemed to enjoy it right? Very sporting audience indeed masa Fijian Cultural Night atu, crack ada jua lol =p Anyways, I'd like to thank all the participants, because without you guys, this thing won't be even possible to do. I apologize for any wrongdoings and any salah tingkah laku yang mengguris perasaan yeah? I truly didn't mean it and much apologies from me. =)

To choirers: Thank you putting up with my fussiness (is there such a word?), with me suddenly stopping you guys singing half way, for being cranky some times. Sorryyy ahhh! Thank you for coming to practices and sacrificing your free time as well. =) Thank you soo much.

To dancers: Great job. Thank you for menghafal-ing tarian tangan mostly yang mengconfuse-kan kadang-kadang. Sorry, I didn't get to teach a proper dance routine yeah. But yeah, you guys were very pretty. =)

To the actors and onstage people: Thank you for being the centre of attention of our show. The crowd loves you, we love you! Thank you Zizan for being a great and commanding Sultan, Nisah, a very graceful and well-played puteri, pengayuh-pengayuh for playing the part and being coordinated, the ombak people, thank you for doing a good job, despite the last minute practices and me being strict with you yeah.

To the backstage people: Raymond and Pei Yee, thank you thank youu!! without you guys, I'd have a hard time trying to figure out stuffs and keeping things under control.

To the camera/video people: Saidah and Shidah (and Aimi too): thank you for capturing our first-ever grand performance as proof. We can now say that we Bruneians are as active as other associations as well! =)

To Adibah: special thank you sebab susah-susah membawakan kain biru dari Brunei!! mahal tiketnya kemari tu. =)

Special thanks to Zizan for helping me figure out the plot line, making the boat, and keeping me in track just in case I step out-of-line.

To everyone else who I've forgotten to mention, I'm sorry but thank you nevertheless yeah.

Assalamualaikum and hello,

Introducing the first BSA Bowling Tournament which would be held on
Saturday, 2nd August at 6pm. The aims of this event are to diversify

At the moment, I am just getting the number of participants. The
minimum number of participants for this event is 12, so if there are
less than 12, this event would be cancelled.

The cost is $9 including another $5 return fare from the bowling

Bismillah Hirahman Hirahim,

"And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him" (Surah At-Talaq, Ayat 3).

'Umar RA said: I heard the Messenger of Allah SAW saying: If you all depend on Allah, with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and the return with full belly at dusk." (At-Tirmidhi)

Commentary: Trust in Allah does not mean one should not give any importance to material resources. What it really means is that along with their due importance, one should have full trust in Allah. Without His Will, material resources are of no avail. But nevertheless it is necessary to have material resources because their procurement is also ordained by Him. Birds do not keep sitting in their nests for food but fly out in search of it.

Assalamualaikum WBK,

As our exams are coming nearer, BSA will be organising Solah Fardhu Maghrib followed by Sunat Hajat to ask Allah SWT for his Guidance in our exams. The function will be held on Saturday, 24/5 from Maghrib (5:08pm) to Isya (6:37pm) in the Clubs and Socs Evision lounge (sorry Dibah, wrong date again!). This will be followed by potluck dinner.

Fardhu paryers will be 10 minutes after the actual time.

Please, could most of us bring our sajadah.

Any other queries please ask your respective reps or the other execs.

As some of you might noe oredi...BSA will be joining international food
fest and oso, international cultural nite... Those who don't...now u noe.
Thanks to those yang volunteering to help BSA out for the food fest...

Anyways, for the international cultural nite, BSA will performing a choir.
Thanks to Dhiya for volunteering to teach. The song will be lela
menchanai. So, we need a minimum of 15 people. And we're hoping that all
the boys will be joining the choir group...because we need the bass. Suara
bini bini lating, so can't relli make the bass sound. We need a minimum of
2 weeks practice. The actual day will be on the 15th JULY 2008.

Tell me if u guys are keen to join. Don't give me reasons yang your voice
is not lawa lahh, so ugly lahh, very not-sitinurhaliza-voice lah... Please
dun giv me those crappy reasons lah because me myself will be joining, so
i dun think anyone cud be any worst than me kan?

international food fest volunteers wanted

Hey team! hope everyone is doing good =) BSA is joining the International Food Fest on Thursday 10th July and the International Cultural Night on the 15th July, 7pm at the Town Hall, Octagon.
We need volunteers to help cook and serve at food fest. Please let me know by Wednesday if you are interested cause we have to sort out who going for the Food handling course required by DCC. I have to confirm names by 10th May.

BSA members together with UMNO joined forces to showcase their delicacies to the public.. in just a few hours all of the food has been sold out meaning that it was very successful to both of the clubs..

congratulations and kudos to the people who worked hard to make the food and those who helped in selling them..

That night, PLEASE PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL!! Be at the hotel at least before
7.15pm. PLEASE!!!! U're not the VIPs.....so, not matter what please come
early. And, sitting arrangements, not too sure yet, but if possible mix

around. Don't just stick to your own group.

That place is jauh? Yess, i noe. I don't care how you gonna get there,
pakai taxi o jalan kaki, as long as you're there. If you don't know where
is the place, find it first before the dinner.


IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE COME TO THE DINNER!!

After the dinner, i would really apperciate it if you guys say 'thank you'
to Dr. Warwcik Brunton. He has done a lot to make this dinner happen.

Mid sem is coming soon! yea~~cuti! Just to inform you guys BSA is planning to have some activities on the 19th and 20th April.

19th April : OMSA Food Festival.
OMSA(Otago Malaysian Student Association) has kindly invited us to join their food festival. BSA gonna make
Nasi Katok, Bubur ChaCha and Popia Pisang. So, its gonna be a gotong-royong session to prepare the foods. So, make sure you guys come and help
BSA to gain profit!:P

20th April : Bowling or Badminton (Subject to confirmation)

majlis gotong royong

The event was held on the 29th March at children care centre

It was the 1st ever event hosted by students from Malaysia and BSA executives were invited to join the event. The aim of the event was to get together and help each other prepare food and such promoting the theme "mengeratkan silaturrahim". Cutting, preparing the mutton and BBQ were done by the males. Other ingredients and cooking were prepared and done by the females. The cuisines served were Sup Tulang, daging masak kuzi, coleslaw, sambal telur etc. Shareen, Aziemah and Patricia contributed the infamous bubur kacang itam with ice cream which caught their attention.

Other interesting activities were how to making of sushi, watching roti canai being made and foosball competition. The duration of the event was from 9am til 4pm.

"On behalf of BSA we are thankful of the invitation from the Malaysian students' associated clubs and we hope that there will be such a joint event in the future which involves not just the execs but its members as well.." -ITO
